That's not true, I see people hating on his off court activities all the time on here. Even when he opened the I Promise school, there were plenty of people whining about the fact that he only paid for a portion of it, and therefore was selfish by putting more burden on taxpayers.

Definitely agree with you that Lebron is the ultimate role model and person who the NBA needs as its face. I also I think the face of the league in other sports is disputed. You could say Brady for the NFL but he is very private and you could make many arguments that he isn't the face. Forget about MLB. The best players in baseball can walk down a city street without getting recognized. Wouldn't it be sad if KD was the face of the NBA? Luckily for him that once Lebron passes the torch of being the best basketball player in the world, it won't be to him but to Giannis, who would be a great face for the NBA.

I think as far social outreach and philanthropy, he's probably the best there is.

But in terms of acclaim and likability, it's pretty hard to go with anyone except Federer.

I'd say Michael Schumacher in his prime was at the same level. Won 5 of his championships back to back, dude was insane. (So was Ferrari with their car but still) he definitely put F1 racing on the map for a ton of people.

Bill Russell is a hero and one of sports’ greatest humanitarians. That being said, we have the benefit of being able to see how his legacy influenced the world over decades. It’s not hard to imagine looking back at LeBron in a similar way 40-50 years from now.

LeBron built on the work that Russell, Kareem, Oscar and others did for the sport. In the same way you already see a lot of younger guys talking about how LeBron is influencing them to do humanitarian work. I’m excited to see what the next generation of players will accomplish.

Love me some Lebron. Still upset that some people were saying he sucked this year or is declining, such a dumb take. He averaged above his career average in points assists and rebounds, he’s somehow still improving if anything.

He has a better defensive rating than guys like Kawhi, Smart, and Capela. And a worse rating than guys like D'Lo, Jokic, and Kyrie.

Defensive rating (and just about every defensive metric publicly available) completely sucks — for a simple reason, really. We have very limited box score stats available for defensive prowess compared to offense.

It looked like LeBron didn’t really give a shit on defense starting in about February or March.

I agree with your overall point though, which is that his defense wasn’t massively different from the last few years. He’s been coasting into the playoffs until his last Cleveland season and then he turns it up in the playoffs. But there’s not really a rational argument to be made that LeBron consistently plays high level D in the regular season.

He's certainly declined a little since his peak. In his peak years in Miami he was a defensive player of the year candidate and one of the most efficient scorers in the league. His scoring is about the same now, but on much lower efficiency and he obviously conserves energy on defense. Also a lot of people see being more injury prone as a sign of aging. Maybe it was just a fluke, but missing more games than ever before has contributed to that discussion. You can argue that he's not declined much, but saying he's improving is a big stretch.
